1.     Does a documented quality system exist for the laboratory?

Barrow-Agee Laboratories is an ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited laboratory, and maintains a documented Quality Manual that describes our Quality Policy, organizational structure and policies, including document control, training, methodology, measurement traceability and processing of test items.

2.     Is a copy of the Quality Manual available for review upon request?

We are pleased to make our Quality Manual available for review onsite.  The Quality Manual is a controlled document and we do not release copies for review outside of our facility.

3.     Is Barrow-Agee Laboratories accredited, certified or FDA registered?

Barrow-Agee Laboratories is ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited by A2LA for microbiology, metals, mercury, pesticide residues and drug residues, and is accredited by the USDA for the determination of chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticide residues.  We are an AOCS Certified Laboratory and a Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Certified Laboratory.  In addition to that, we are an FDA registered establishment.

4.     Is a management review of the entire quality system performed annually?

Management reviews are conducted annually and actively support the company’s Quality Policy by reviewing proficiency program reports, internal and external audits, corrective actions, customer feedback, employee training and capacity for analysis.  Barrow-Agee recognizes that quality is a vital component of a successful business plan.

5.     Do you have a complaint or out of specification investigation plan, including corrective action and preventative action documentation? 

Barrow-Agee has a formal policy for documentation of complaints, including root cause analysis, corrective action and preventative action.  Please note that a $50.00 fee will apply for a documented Corrective Action Report/Out of Specification report. 

6.     Does the laboratory participate in any proficiency testing program? 

Barrow-Agee participates in the AAFCO Feed Check Sample Program, the AOCS Smalley Series (Oilseed Meal and Soybean Oil), the USDA Accredited Laboratory Program (Chlorinated Pesticides), the Canadian Food Inspection Agency Proficiency Program (antibiotic and beta-agonist residues) and the American Proficiency Institute (API) Microbiology series.

7.     Does Barrow-Agee Laboratories conduct analysis under cGMP guidelines?

Upon review of the client’s request by the Management team and upon approval by the Quality Officer, Barrow-Agee Laboratories will conduct analysis to meet cGMP guidelines, including the use of approved methodology, document traceability and personnel qualifications. 

8.     What sample submission requirements do you have? 

We request that our sample submission form is used when sending samples and the form is available on our website (  Alternately, our clients may use their own submission paperwork on their letterhead.  We recommend that perishable samples be shipped by overnight courier in an insulated shipping container with ice to maintain 2-10°C.  Microbiological samples should be shipped overnight in coolers with ice packs to maintain a refrigerated temperature of < 10C (< 50F).  For best service, please select 8:00 am delivery for overnight shipments.  Samples need to be clearly identified in indelible ink and may be contained in appropriate glass, metal, whirl-pak or plastic containers.  Paper documents identifying the samples should be enclosed in plastic (e.g.: zip-loc or whirl-pak bag) to protect the paperwork from moisture or contact with the samples. 

9.     What happens if samples do not meet your sample submission requirements?

The client is notified upon receipt of the sample(s) if the paperwork does not clearly describe the requested analysis or does not completely identify the samples submitted.  In addition to that, the client is notified if the sample arrives in a thermally abused manner or if the integrity of the sample container is disturbed. 

10.  How are samples stored and secured?

Perishable samples are stored frozen or refrigerated for 30 days.  Non-perishable samples are stored at room temperature for 30 days.  Sample storage greater than 30 days is available upon request and may result in a fee for long term sample storage.  The laboratory maintains secure access 24 hours a day and is monitored by security alarm after hours.  Only trained, authorized personnel come in contact with the samples.

11.  What is your typical service or turn-around time?

Our standard service time is typically within five business days (M-F) from the time of receipt of the sample.  Exceptions to this service will occur for non-routine sample preparation, non-routine analysis and outsourced testing. 

12.  Do you offer “Rush” analytical services?

We offer several options for “rush” service, including 24 hour and 48 hour service options.  For optimum Rush service, please choose Priority 8:00 AM delivery for your shipping.  A surcharge will apply to “rush” service to account for the additional labor to process expedited analysis.  Please note that some analysis (e.g.: microbiological assays) cannot be completed in less than 48 hours. 

13.  Can I receive my results by email, fax or verbal communication?

Official results will be sent by Email in PDF format by default unless otherwise instructed.  Upon request, Barrow-Agee provides fax copies of the official results at no extra charge.  Verbal communication of results are provided upon request, but are considered unofficial until the signed Certificate of Analysis is reported to the client.  Barrow-Agee makes every effort to consider other requests for specialized reporting and extra charges may apply depending on the complexity of the request.

14.  Are there additional charges for creating revised reports, reprinting archived reports or preparing copies of raw data for clients?

There is no charge for reprinting archived reports within 90 days of original reporting date or for a revised report that is the result of a correction by Barrow-Agee Laboratories.  A report fee of $25.00 is charged for any report that is revised to include information that is supplied by the client after the Certificate of Analysis is reported, for the reproduction of any report from our data archive after 90 days from the original report date or for a non-routine report.  A report fee of $150.00 is charged for the review, preparation and reproduction of raw data (chromatograms, spectrophotometric data, notebook data or other printed documentation) for submittal to clients. 

15.  Are there any charges for completing Certified Feed Laboratory analysis reports for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS)?

There is a $10.00 per sample fee for the documentation of Certified Laboratory results on the official FDACS report form. 

16.  What is your fee for a report summarizing a method or an explanation of results?

The minimum fee for a narrative report or summary report is $100.00.  Additional fees may apply, depending on the complexity of the report.

17.  Do you provide a narrative report to support analysis conducted under cGMP requirements?

Barrow-Agee Laboratories will be pleased to provide a data report for analysis conducted under cGMP requirements for a minimum fee of $250.00.

18.  Is our analysis performed under strict confidentiality?

All analysis is performed under strict confidentiality to protect the privacy of each client.  This confidentiality policy ensures that reports are only provided to approved contacts provided by the client and that no reports are provided to third parties without the written authorization from the client.

19.  Will Barrow-Agee sign a confidentiality agreement with our company?

Upon review by the management team, Barrow-Agee Laboratories will sign confidentiality or mutual non-disclosure agreements with our clients. 

20.  Do we qualify for a discount if the sample submission will occur at regular intervals?

21.  Is shipping included in the price of analysis?

Shipping is not included in the price of analysis unless it is approved by the management team as part of a quote, service agreement or contract. 

22.  Do you offer package pricing for proximate analysis?

Barrow-Agee offers package pricing for proximate analysis of soybean meal, grain and feed samples.  Please see pricing in Price Schedule under the section titled “Proximate/Referee Analysis” or on our website at  Please note that package pricing does not apply to food or pet food.

PAYMENT TERMS AND CREDIT POLICY: Prepayment or credit application is required to establish a new account.  Payment terms are net 30 days after invoice date.  A 3% processing fee will be added to credit card payments.  A 1½ % per month late charge may be added to all unpaid balances.  Delinquent accounts may be served on a C.O.D. basis.  100% Surcharge may apply for single sample submission.  All prices are subject to change without notice.
